Hi everyone, In this article, we will learn how to handle the error of being unable to put the Canon printer into Service Mode to reset error 5B00 on the Canon printer.
We recently received a query from a customer experiencing issues with their Canon MG5660 printer.
They followed the Service Mode process steps but encountered difficulties when they did not receive the “FOUND NEW HARDWARE” message on their printer, and the screen remained blank.
Additionally, the WIC Reset Utility indicated that the printer was not connected.
Troubleshooting Canon MG5660 Printer Connection Issues: Can not put into the Service Mode
During the operation of a Canon printer, you may encounter an error where the waste ink counter overflows, causing the printer to stop working. This issue is commonly indicated by error code 5B00.
To resolve this error, download the WIC Reset Utility software and reset the Canon printer’s waste ink counter.
However, in order to reset the Canon printer using the WIC Reset Utility software, you must first put the Canon printer into “Service Mode.“

As indicated in the email, a customer purchased a reset key to reset the waste ink counter for their Canon MG5660 printer. Before attempting the reset, the customer put the Canon MG5660 printer into “Service Mode.”
However, they encountered a problem.

4. “Try Another Computer:“
– Try to use another computer to reset the printer.
5. “Run WIC Reset Utility as Administrator:“

– Try connecting the USB cable to a different USB port on your computer to rule out any port-related issues.
Here is how to put Canon printer into Service Mode
“What if you still don’t succeed?“
If you “CAN NOT” put the printer in “Service Mode“, it might mean that “the printer’s EEPROM is damaged“, possibly by using other software such as the Service Tool ST or others. In such cases, the Service Mode in the printer might be locked.
“Solution:“
You have to solder out the Flash IC with EEPROM from the mainboard and reprogram this Flash IC EEPROM for your model – then solder it back.
